The new central energy plant (CEP) at Orlando Health will provide chilled water, steam, and emergency power for the new Women’s and Babies and Arnold Palmer Hospital Expansion (approximately 500,000 sq. ft.).
The project is planned to eventually serve the entire downtown campus and future campus needs. The existing central energy plant has been modified over the past 10 years by RLF to increase cooling capacity from 3600 tons of refrigeration to 6200 tons of refrigeration. Emergency power was expanded from 2500 kW to 5000 kW. The last expansion of the central energy plant added 830 tons of capacity for the MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando project without adding a chiller. As part of this expansion, RLF engineers developed and implemented a testing scheme for the entire campus essential system. The plan involved more than 100 people and two months of planning. The test included load shed, transfer inhibit, load pickup, and 37 transfer switches around the campus.
