The 104,000 SF Medical / Dental Clinic at Naval Station, Mayport, Florida commands a central location, on a direct line between the ship turning basin and the major housing area of the installation.
The building is designed in two segments; a one story mass to house pharmacy and physical therapy and a two story mass housing primary care and other clinical departments. A two-story lobby, vertical circulation element and patient circulation spine join the two masses. The patient spine is naturally lighted by clerestory windows. A series of light wells at the second floor extends this natural lighting to ground level.
Clinical departments are located on either side of the patient spine, and contiguous cross-corridors provide for flexible departmental boundaries. In addition, each cross-corridor is connected to a back corridor for staff movement.
