This project expanded and modernized one of the largest open-heart programs in the country, a difficult and complex undertaking while maintaining the existing surgery program throughout construction. A series of renovation phases was required to assure that the number of OR's in use would never drop below the required capacity to meet demand.

RLF was the third team of designers to propose designs for the surgery expansion and the first to present a workable solution which permitted reuse of existing OR's. This solution resulted in significant savings, allowing the client to move forward with the project.

The combined 66,300 SF of new construction and 67,000 SF of alterations include 9 open heart OR's, 23 main surgery OR's, 44 CVICU beds, pre-op / PACU, central sterile processing, CEP expansion and scheduling for 3 major phases and 10 sub-phases.
