This project is an addition to an existing 383,000 -sq. ft. hospital and clinic facility in North Chicago, Illinois. The addition is primarily programmed clinic space, providing an additional 208,000 sf of area. The program also includes a new three story, structured 50,000 -sq. ft. parking garage.

The existing facility is arranged around an easily identifiable north/south spine that extends through the facility. The patient spine provides good access to all patient destinations while serving as a facility organizer with vertical circulation nodes located along this spine.

Within the new clinic addition, all program arranges itself around a four story atrium space. The floor from the main level folds down into the basement level through a grand stair. The roof of the atrium is a series of folded planes that allow daylight to flood all levels, while programmed waiting space circulate around the floor openings at each level of the hall.
